These natural oils can boost the moisture and shine of your hair, nourish your scalp, reduce dryness, and help with dandruff. They also promote faster and healthier hair growth without relying on pricey cosmetics or harmful chemicals.
To use these treatments, massage a bit of room temperature or slightly warmed oil into your roots and scalp, working it down to the tips like a conditioner. Put on a shower cap and let it sit for about half an hour before washing your hair with an all-natural shampoo.
For thick, unruly hair, try Coconut, Argan, Avocado, or Extra-virgin olive oil. For thinner hair that needs a lift, try Pomegranate Seed or Rosemary Oil. Jojoba oil is suitable for all hair types.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is renowned for its benefits. Besides its delightful scent, it’s packed with vitamin E and other nutrients your hair can absorb, resulting in thicker, shinier, and healthier hair with stronger roots. Use unrefined, organic virgin coconut oil. It’s excellent for deep conditioning, treating dandruff, and adding volume and shine. Warm a couple of teaspoons until liquid, massage into your scalp, wrap in a towel, and leave for an hour or even overnight. Regular use can eliminate dandruff and strengthen your immune system.
Argan Oil
Argan oil, derived from Moroccan argan trees, is famous for creating beautiful locks. It’s filled with antioxidants, vitamin E, and omega fatty acids that nourish and repair dry, coarse, or damaged hair. Apply 2-3 drops before using styling tools to protect against heat damage. It also combats the effects of swimming pool chemicals and saltwater. After swimming, shampoo, condition, and apply a small amount of argan oil to the ends of your hair.
Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
Extra-virgin olive oil is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, making it perfect for a healthy scalp and hair. It coats each hair strand to protect from damage and helps with hair growth by combining it with egg yolks. For conditioning, apply a teaspoon to the ends, massage the strands, and use a hair dryer on medium heat for several minutes. Leave it on for 45 minutes to two hours, then rinse thoroughly.
Pomegranate Seed Oil
Pomegranate seed oil revitalizes fine or thinning hair with its high punicic acid content, making hair healthier and shinier. It penetrates deep into hair follicles, hydrating them without greasiness. Apply a few drops from scalp to ends.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary essential oil helps darken gray hair, best for naturally dark hair. Combine with a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil, apply from scalp to ends, and wrap in a towel for two hours before shampooing and conditioning.
Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is packed with healthy fats, vitamins, proteins, and amino acids that repair damaged hair and promote growth. Massage a liberal amount onto your scalp and hair, comb through, wrap in a towel for a couple of hours, then shampoo and rinse well.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil, a liquefied wax from a native U.S. shrub, is rich in vitamins A, E, and D. It’s effective for all hair types, especially for repairing damaged hair and promoting new growth. Warm a small amount, apply starting an inch from the scalp, wrap in a towel for 20 minutes, and then wash and condition.
