I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but I do like to add a bit of color to my lips. I’m not into those heavy, waxy lipsticks that end up on your cup rims and teeth. Instead, I prefer a natural tint that stays put and keeps my lips moisturized.
Many commercial cosmetics are loaded with toxins and unnatural ingredients. By making your own lip stain at home, you can be sure of what you’re putting on your lips. All the ingredients I use are chosen for their health benefits and the beautiful results they produce, which can be customized to match your style and color preferences.
Here’s how you can make your own DIY lip stain:
Ingredients/Materials needed:
– Shea butter or coconut oil
– Beeswax
– Beet root powder and/or hibiscus powder
– Small microwave-safe glass bowl
– Bamboo skewer
– Cosmetic containers
Method:
The amount of beeswax you use will determine how firm your lip stain will be. I use equal parts beeswax and shea butter because both are firm at room temperature. If you prefer a softer product, use coconut oil or less beeswax.
1. Put the glass bowl in the microwave and heat in 30-second intervals until the beeswax and shea butter are melted. Stir with the bamboo skewer.
2. Mix in a generous amount of beet root and/or hibiscus powder. Stir until you get the shade you like and the powder is completely dissolved.
3. Pour the mixture into a cosmetic container and let it cool. I recommend making small batches since these stains don’t have preservatives like commercial products. However, beeswax has natural antibacterial properties and is great for the skin.
Benefits of Each Ingredient:
– Hibiscus and beet root powder are natural colorants rich in antioxidants and folate, which help stimulate the production and repair of skin cells.
– Beeswax has conditioning properties and helps soothe inflamed skin, making it great for chapped lips.
– Shea butter is full of vitamins and fatty acids, making it incredibly nourishing and moisturizing for the skin.
– Coconut oil is a natural, edible oil that is an excellent moisturizer. It melts on the skin without leaving residues and deeply moisturizes.
Enjoy making your own lip stain and knowing exactly what you’re putting on your lips!
