Dry skin can get really itchy and uncomfortable, but you don’t have to just put up with it. Lotion bars are a simple and portable way to keep your skin moisturized without the mess of liquid lotions. These citrus mint lotion bars not only hydrate your skin but also give you a refreshing scent boost.
These lotion bars are ultra-moisturizing and offer a bit of aromatherapy too. The beeswax helps the mint and orange scents last longer on your skin. You’ll end up with healthier skin, a great smell, and a better mood.
Coconut Oil for Hydration
Coconut oil works wonders for various skin types and its antimicrobial properties can even help with acne. It’s a natural oil that isn’t made with chemical solvents or refined like some other oils. Because of its lower molecular weight, it penetrates deeply into the skin for long-lasting moisture. Although it takes a few minutes to fully absorb, it keeps your skin hydrated longer than water-based lotions.
Mango for Moisturizing
Mango butter is a natural emollient rich in essential fatty acids. Studies show that it can repair worn and cracked skin and even heal wounds. Its texture is harder than shea butter but softer than cocoa butter, making it perfect for deep moisturizing when combined with other ingredients.
Orange and Mint for Aromatherapy
Both orange and mint essential oils are known for being uplifting and energizing. Spearmint oil can improve acne and scars, and help relieve stress and fatigue. Peppermint boosts stamina and alertness. Orange essential oil increases circulation, helping to regenerate cells and brighten dull skin. It also helps relieve anxiety and stress while boosting energy and mental clarity. Plus, its antiseptic properties help keep you healthy.
Ingredients for Citrus Mint Lotion Bars
– ¼ cup mango butter (52 grams)
– ¼ cup coconut oil (52 grams)
– ¼ cup beeswax (30 grams)
– 25 drops orange essential oil
– 10 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil
Materials
– Glass bowl
– Saucepan
– Metal spoon
– Mold or muffin tin
Instructions
1. Add the mango butter, beeswax, and coconut oil to the glass bowl.
2. Place the bowl over a saucepan filled halfway with water and heat on medium.
3. Stir occasionally with the metal spoon until everything is melted together, then remove from heat.
4. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, then add the essential oils and stir to combine.
5. Pour the mixture into your molds and let it cool until hardened. You can speed this up by putting them in the fridge.
6. Once hardened, put the lotion bars in the freezer for 3 minutes. This makes it easier to pop them out of the mold. Turn the mold over onto a towel-lined countertop and give it a firm bang to release the bars.
7. Store your lotion bars in a cool place away from sunlight to prevent melting.
How to Use Your Lotion Bars
Rub the lotion bars liberally all over your skin, focusing on dry spots like your knees and feet. It will take a few minutes for the oils to absorb into your skin.
Investing in some fun and creative lotion bar molds can be worth it. While a muffin tin works, there are many designs to choose from that can make the process more enjoyable.
