Craft Your Own Peppermint & Lavender Heel Balm for Smooth, Hydrated Feet

Your feet have a tough job, supporting you and moving you around every day. Yet, we often stuff them in socks and shoes, giving them little reward. When the warm weather rolls around, your feet, especially your dry, cracked heels, could use some extra care.

To get them back in shape, try a healing peppermint and lavender heel balm. Both peppermint and lavender have anti-fungal and healing properties that are great for your feet, and they smell wonderful together. With a little TLC, your feet will be ready to shine.

Supplies Needed:
– 2 oz of cocoa butter
– 2 oz of coconut oil
– 5-8 drops of peppermint essential oil
– 5-8 drops of lavender essential oil
– Heat-proof jar
– Small saucepan
– Digital scale (optional)

Weighing Ingredients:
For the most accurate measurements, it’s best to weigh your dry ingredients. While 2 oz is equal to 1/4 cup, dry and volume measurements can differ. For instance, 2 oz of solid coconut oil won’t take up the same space as 2 oz of cocoa butter. Weighing ensures consistency. If you don’t have a scale, using a measuring cup is fine, but your balm may be slightly looser. I zero out my scale with the cup on it, then add the coconut oil until it reaches 2 oz.

Cocoa Butter:
Cocoa butter often comes in a solid block. You can scrape off what you need with a small knife. It’s solid at room temperature but will start to melt with the warmth of your hands.

Melting the Ingredients:
Combine the coconut oil and cocoa butter in a heat-proof cup or jar. Place the cup in a pan with water about 2 inches high. Turn the burner on low and let the ingredients slowly melt.

Adding Essential Oils:
Once the coconut oil and cocoa butter have melted, carefully remove the cup from the pan. Add the peppermint and lavender essential oils.

Pouring and Cooling:
Pour the melted mixture into a 4 oz glass jar. Let it cool completely at room temperature until it solidifies. Once cooled, cover with a lid and store in a cool, dry place.

How to Use:
For the best results, soak your feet in warm water for 10-15 minutes beforehand. Use a pumice stone or foot scrub to remove dry skin from your heels. Towel dry and apply a generous amount of the heel balm. Put on a pair of socks to help lock in the moisture. Soon, your heels will be ready for flip-flops!
