For someone who doesn’t wear much makeup, I still like my lips to have a bit of color. I’m not a fan of heavy, waxy lipsticks that end up on cups and teeth. I prefer a natural tint that stays on your lips and keeps them moisturized.
Many commercial cosmetics contain toxins and unnatural ingredients. By making your own lip stain at home, you can ensure you know exactly what you’re putting on your lips. The ingredients in this recipe are chosen for their health benefits and can be tailored to suit your preferred style and color.
How to Make Your Own DIY Lip Stain
Ingredients/Materials Needed:
– Shea butter or coconut oil
– Beeswax
– Beet root powder and/or hibiscus powder
– Small microwave-safe glass bowl
– Bamboo skewer
– Cosmetic containers
Method:
1. The amount of beeswax you use will determine how firm your lip stain will be. For a firm lip stain, use equal parts beeswax and shea butter. Both are firm at room temperature but soften with body heat. For a softer product, use coconut oil or less beeswax.
2. Place the glass bowl in the microwave and heat in 30-second intervals until the beeswax and shea butter melt. Stir with the bamboo skewer.
3. Mix in a generous amount of beet root and/or hibiscus powder. Stir until you achieve your desired shade and the powder is completely dissolved.
4. Pour the mixture into a cosmetic container and let it cool. Make these lip stains in small batches as they last for a few months without preservatives. Beeswax has natural antibacterial properties and is great for the skin.
Benefits of Each Ingredient:
– Hibiscus and beet root powder are natural colorants rich in antioxidants and folate, which help stimulate the production and repair of skin cells.
– Beeswax conditions and soothes inflamed skin, making it ideal for chapped lips.
– Shea butter is full of natural vitamins and fatty acids, providing nourishment and moisture.
– Coconut oil is a natural, edible oil and one of the best moisturizers. It melts on the skin, seeps into pores, and moisturizes deeply without leaving residue.
