Craft Your Own Peppermint & Lavender Heel Balm for Soft, Smooth Heels

Your feet work hard for you every day – helping you stand up, walking you to different places. But how do you thank them? By squishing them into socks and shoes. Then, when it’s finally time to let them breathe in the warmer weather, they’re in desperate need of some attention, especially those dry, cracked heels.

Time to pamper them with a peppermint and lavender heel balm that both heals and smells amazing. Peppermint and lavender are fantastic because they’ve got properties that help fight fungus and heal your skin. A bit of care, and your feet will be ready to show off in no time.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– 2 ounces of cocoa butter
– 2 ounces of coconut oil
– 5-8 drops of peppermint essential oil
– 5-8 drops of lavender essential oil
– A heatproof jar
– Small saucepan
– Digital scale (optional, but helpful)

First things first, weighing your ingredients is the way to go for accuracy. This is because 2 ounces of coconut oil won’t take up the same amount of space as 2 ounces of cocoa butter due to their different densities. For consistent results, weighing is recommended, but if you don’t have a scale, eyeballing with measuring cups will still get you a good, though slightly different, result. Starting with the scale at zero, add your coconut oil until you hit the right weight.

Cocoa butter is usually a big block that you can shave off what you need with a knife. It’s solid at room temperature, but it’ll start melting once you handle it.

To melt, put your coconut oil and cocoa butter together in a heatproof container. Then, place this container in a saucepan with about 2 inches of water. Heat it up on low, letting everything melt together nicely.

After everything’s melted, stir in your peppermint and lavender essential oils.

Next, pour your freshly made heel balm into a 4-ounce glass jar and let it cool at room temperature. It’ll solidify after cooling. Keep it covered and stored somewhere cool and dry.

For using the balm, don’t just slap it on. You’ll want to prep your feet first, soaking them in warm water for about 10-15 minutes, maybe scrubbing a bit to get rid of dry skin. After toweling off, slather on the balm generously and put on some socks to help it soak in fully. Do this, and your heels will be looking and feeling great, ready for sandal season in no time.
