Cream eye shadows and liners are great for adding color and moisturizing your eyes. This recipe uses shea butter and vitamin E oil to help reduce inflammation and boost collagen, making it perfect for dry or combination skin. If you have very oily skin, you might want to stick to powder eye shadow instead.
This recipe also uses cosmetic-grade mica powder, which allows you to customize colors to match your complexion, eyes, and hair. Mica powders come in various colors and are affordable. They usually come in 4 oz containers and last a long time. Once you learn how to make your own eye shadow and liner, you’ll never want to go back to store-bought ones!
Here’s what you’ll need:
– 1/4 teaspoon beeswax pastilles
– 1 teaspoon shea butter
– 1/4 teaspoon vitamin E oil
– 1 teaspoon glycerin
– 2 teaspoons cosmetic-grade mica powder
– Bamboo skewer
– Glass or ceramic bowl
– Small jar with lid (5ml containers work well)
To make the eye shadow and liner:
1. The steps are the same for both. Use a darker, charcoal color for the liner.
2. Add the mica powder to the containers. You can also mix the powders in a larger bowl, but that means more dishes to wash.
3. In a larger bowl, add the beeswax and shea butter. Microwave in 10-second intervals until melted.
4. Once melted, add the vitamin E oil.
5. Add the teaspoon of glycerin. This helps keep the mixture from getting too hard. The mixture will thicken slightly.
6. Add half of the shea butter mixture to one of your containers of mica powder. Mix slowly until combined. The consistency should be like frosting.
7. Use a small amount of the cream shadow, as a little goes a long way. Apply it with your fingertips. Make the cream shadow in small batches to keep the ingredients fresh.
I used an iridescent champagne mica powder and added a bit of peach mica powder for a peachy tint. For the liner, I used charcoal mica powder. It’s heavy enough not to flake but not so heavy that it feels like you’re wearing a lot of makeup.
I also use my DIY Natural Blush and DIY lip stain for a natural, barely-there makeup look. At the end of the day, after washing off the cream eye shadow, my lids feel soft and wonderful! No chemicals, no toxins, just pure natural ingredients that nourish our sensitive skin and make us feel great.
