Crafting Your Own Exquisite DIY Lip Stain

For someone who doesn’t wear much makeup, I do like to add a bit of color to my lips. I’m not a fan of heavy, waxy lipsticks that smudge onto cups and teeth. I prefer a natural tint that stays on my lips and keeps them moisturized.

Many commercial cosmetics are packed with toxins and unnatural ingredients. By making your own lip stain at home, you know exactly what you’re putting on your lips. The ingredients I use are selected for their health benefits and can be customized to match your preferred style and color.

How to Make Your Own DIY Lip Stain

Ingredients/Materials needed:
– Shea butter or coconut oil
– Beeswax
– Beetroot powder and/or hibiscus powder
– Small microwave-safe glass bowl
– Bamboo skewer
– Cosmetic containers

Method:
The firmness of your lip stain depends on the amount of beeswax used. I use equal parts beeswax and shea butter, both of which are firm at room temperature, resulting in a firm lip balm/stain that softens with body heat. If you prefer a looser product, use coconut oil or reduce the amount of beeswax.

Heat the glass bowl in the microwave in 30-second intervals until the beeswax and shea butter melt. Stir with the bamboo skewer. Mix in a generous amount of beetroot and/or hibiscus powder until you achieve your desired shade and the powder is fully dissolved. Pour the mixture into a cosmetic container and let it cool. Make these lip stains in small batches, as they lack preservatives found in commercial cosmetics. Beeswax has natural antibacterial properties, making it great for skin.

Benefits of Each Ingredient:
– Hibiscus and beetroot powder are natural colorants rich in antioxidants and folate, which help with skin cell production and repair.
– Beeswax conditions and soothes inflamed skin, ideal for chapped lips.
– Shea butter is rich in vitamins and fatty acids, providing nourishment and moisture.
– Coconut oil is an excellent natural moisturizer that absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving residue.
