Crafting Your Own Peppermint & Lavender Heel Balm for Smoother, Healthier Heels

Your feet work hard every day, keeping you upright and moving around. How do you treat them? By cramming them into socks and shoes. When the warm weather arrives and it’s time to let your feet breathe, they might need some extra care, especially if you have dry, cracked heels.

Let’s get your feet back in shape with a soothing peppermint and lavender heel balm. Both peppermint and lavender have anti-fungal and healing properties, and they smell wonderful together. With a little tender loving care, your feet will be ready to show off.

What You’ll Need:
– 2 oz of cocoa butter
– 2 oz of coconut oil
– 5-8 drops of peppermint essential oil
– 5-8 drops of lavender essential oil
– Heat-proof jar
– Small saucepan
– Digital scale (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Weigh Your Ingredients:
The best way to measure your dry ingredients is by weight. While 2 oz is roughly 1/4 cup, dry measurements and volume measurements aren’t the same. For example, 2 oz of solid coconut oil won’t look the same as 2 oz of cocoa butter. Using a scale ensures consistency. If you don’t have a scale, a measuring cup will work, but your balm might be a bit looser. I set my scale to zero with the cup on it, then added coconut oil until it reached 2 oz.

2. Prepare the Cocoa Butter:
Cocoa butter usually comes in a large chunk. You can scrape off what you need with a small knife. It’s solid at room temperature but will start to melt from the warmth of your hands.

3. Melt the Ingredients:
Combine the coconut oil and cocoa butter in a heat-proof cup or jar. Place the cup in a pan with enough water to come up about 2 inches on the side. Turn the burner on low and let the ingredients slowly melt.

4. Add Essential Oils:
Once the coconut oil and cocoa butter have melted, carefully remove the cup from the pan. Add the peppermint and lavender essential oils.

5. Pour and Cool:
Pour the melted balm into a 4 oz glass jar. Let it sit at room temperature until it completely cools and solidifies. Cover with a lid and store in a cool, dry place.

How to Use:
For best results, soak your feet in warm water for 10-15 minutes. Use a pumice stone or foot scrub to remove dry skin from your heels. Towel dry your feet and apply a generous amount of heel balm. Put on a pair of socks to help the moisture soak in. Your heels will be ready for flip-flops in no time.

Enjoy taking care of your feet with this easy DIY heel balm!
